CodeTek up-date Virtual Desktop to 2.3.1

What's new in this version:
Fixed bug where Matlab, Java, and some X11 applications were not appearing in the pager
Fixed a bug where automatic changing of desktops was not working in all cases
If a default desktop is set for Mail.app, then the activity window is moved to that desktop rather than appearing on the current desktop.
Transparency changes in the pager are no longer jerky
Windows now appear properly in the pager on multi monitor systems with different resolutions on each monitor
CodeTek VirtualDesktop brings full virtual desktop support as available on other operating systems (Mac OS 9, Windows, Unix, Linux) to the Mac OS X platform. www.codetek.com

iPhoto Tracing Tool; Rumours

SpyMac claims that an internal iPhoto beta features some additional photo manipulation tools:

Labeled 'Trace' and currently wedged between the 'Retouch' and 'B & W' edit icons, the wand allows for chunks of pixels to be cut out from the rest of the picture -- especially helpful when removing backgrounds and entire people from images.

Apple to bring QuickTime to mobile devices; QuickTime 6.3 due soon

"Apple Computer Inc. is reportedly preparing to extend the reach of its QuickTime multimedia software to mobile devices. According to sources, the company this month is expected to wrap up development on QuickTime 6.3, code-named 'Sidecar,'" report Nick Ciarelli and Matthew Rothenberg for eWeek.com.

Panther Mac OS X Next Big Wave : More Rumours

According to Loop Rumours this what you can expect to see (at this point in time) with the fall release of Panther;

System-wide metal. Panther's applications system-wide will sport a metal interface.

Flatter Aqua. The overall Aqua appearance in Panther will be flatter with less dimension. The last iChat update late last year showed signs in this direction with the red yellow and green window controls flatter, appearing more recessed within the window. The recently released iTunes also shows signs with the flatter play, fast forward and rewind buttons.

Improved Dock. You will now be able to control document windows that are sent to the dock. Click and hold on the window's icon in the Dock to Save, Print or Close that window.

Piles. Piles will work just like piles of paper stacked up on your desk. Instead of documents having their own individual space on your computer, you group them together in a Pile and see the contents of that Pile by clicking on it.

iChat 2.0. iChat will be Apple's answer to Microsoft's NetMeeting. iChat 2.0 will support videoconferencing with video streams at broadcast quality 30fps, taking advantage of a new compression that Apple has been developing. Other new features will include information on how long a buddy has been signed on and access to member profiles.

QuickTime 6.5. New version with support for videoconferencing, and several compression formats.

Safari 1.0. The Safari web browser will be included as a golden master.

iWorks. Apple is developing a new software package that will rival Microsoft's Office X. ThinkSecret first reported that Apple was working on a new productivity suite. iWorks will consist of a word processing application tentatively called "Document," Apple's Keynote presentation software, a spreadsheet/database application, and an updated Mail 2.0 app.

Advanced Mouse Support Built-in. Support for most third party mice with two and three buttons built in. Jaguar already contains support for scroll wheel mice. On April 30th, LoopRumors reported on a Bluetooth mouse in the works. We stand by this report.

Advanced Software Update. Several sources indicate that the Software Update Control Panel is redesigned. One report specifies that SUCP will maintain a history of all purchases made through one-click, i.e. iTunes Music and software purchased through the Apple Store, will always be accessible for download through that User ID.

64-Bit Support. Panther is written to take full advantage of 64-Bit architecture. Further evidence that Apple will adopt IBM's new PowerPC 970 chip. Although most Application written at the time of release will only be optimized for 32-Bit.

Power PC 970 Timeline

We received word that two large shipments of Power PC 970 processors went to Foxconn in Taiwan, under a purchase order from Apple computer. Twenty thousand 1.4Ghz PPC 970's and forty thousand 1.6Ghz PPC 970's have already arrived in their hands. IBM's inventory contains fifty thousand 1.8 Ghz PPC 970's, of which forty thousand are destined for Foxconn tomorrow. (Source Loop Rumours)

It Start to Look Like New G4 or shall we call then G5(?) are around the corner.......

Popular Mechanics proclaims Apple's HD Cinema Display 'King Of All Flat Screen Monitors'

"The first thing you'll notice about Apple Computer's luscious HD Cinema 23-in. flat-panel display is its size. It's big--really big. Yet, it has a footprint of only 7.3 in. And it's really thin, too--only 2 in. deep. It's a Euclidian plane balanced on its edge, stable yet dynamic. The clear plastic frame and clean lines make the image on the screen look like it's floating in midair. The combination of good looks, stylish design and fantastic image quality leads us to proclaim this Apple display as the King Of All LCD Monitors," writes Christopher Allbritton.

Two Million and Counting; Apple iTunes Music Store Doing Brisk Sales

Apple has announced that over 2 million songs have been downloaded from its iTunes Music Store in the first 16 days of operation. "Response to the iTunes Music Store has been phenomenal -- we've clearly hit a chord with users," said Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO.

Long Awaited: The 500-plus Most Amazing Power Tips for the Mac

O'Reilly Releases "Mac OS X Hints"

Many of the former keyboard shortcuts, undocumented
double-clicks, and secret timesavers vanished with the appearance of
Mac OS X 10.2. The new operating system may be a stunning technical
achievement, but it has a personality of its own. Fortunately, Mac OS X
harbors just as many secrets as any system that came before; users just
have to know where to find them. "Mac OS X Hints: Jaguar Edition" by
Rob Griffiths reveals the best tips, tricks, and work-arounds that Jaguar has to offer.

"The 500-plus hints in this book are based on tips published in the Mac
OS X Hints web site (www.macosxhints.com)," explains Griffiths. "But
it's not just a rehash of what's there. Every hint has been rewritten,
expanded, organized, indexed, tested for compatibility with the latest
version of Mac OS X 10.2, and in many cases, illustrated, making the
book an even better resource than the web site."

Inside "Mac OS X Hints: Jaguar Edition" isa available right now from O'Reilly

Apple is providing new, 2003 Mac-bootable CDs to customers who request them. (According to MacFixit)

Rumours; Keynote, iSync and iCal are lined up for minor updates by month's end.

Rumors of Keynote 1.0.2 and iSync 1.1 have leaked out over the past few weeks. ThinkSecret published a few more iSync update details today and also expects the release to arrive by the end of this month. Fewer details on iCal updates are available, though there have been indications that the iCal development team has seen some employee turnover in the recent past. (Source RailHeadDesign )

O'Reilly Releases "Mac OS X for Java Geeks"

Praise for the newest Mac operating system has ranged
from mildly glowing to unbridled hyperbole. End-users are
not the only ones making the transition; the new
OS is drawing developers, too, including a steadily increasing
number of Java developers. The reason for this?
Novelty and a pleasing countenance, while appealing in their own right, may not provide
impetus enough to lure Java developers from their current development
platform. But, as Will Iverson, author of "Mac OS X for Java Geeks" explains,
"Mac OS X is finally a developer'splatform. With the melding of BSD, a killer user interface,
and unprecedented stability, code can finally be written on the Mac OS X platform and deployed to Windows,
Linux, Unix, or other Mac OS X Servers."
