TigerTracker sets out to gather information on Mac OS X v10.4

iPod It 2.4 adds Entourage 2004 support, and more

Developer ZappTek has released iPod It 2.4, the new version of the company's utility for exporting personal data from Entourage, Mail, iCal and other applications, as well as downloading news and weather, to your iPod. The upgrade offers almost 40 changes and enhancements, including support for Entourage 2004, the ability to download news articles in full as well as multiple weather forecasts, the addition of custom contact fields and IM addresses for Entourage and Address Book data and more.

NewerTech, OWC intro RoadTrip FM transmitter for iPod

Newer Technology Inc. and Other World Computing (OWC) have jointly announced the release of the RoadTrip FM Transmitter, which uses the 107.7 FM frequency on a car radio to play music from any iPod or iPod mini, including 1G iPods, as well as many other types of MP3 players. It draws power via the car's 12-volt cigarette lighter and features a 3.5mm stereo jack.

Digital Lifestyle Outfitters (DLO) announced iBoom, a four-speaker boombox system featuring 20 watts per channel, a built-in digital FM radio and a dock that accepts an iPod or iPod mini. It also features a built-in handle, an auxiliary input jack and the option to receive power through the included AC adapter, which also charges the iPod, or six D cell batteries. DLO expects iBoom to be available in late September and had not updated its Web site with a product page as MacCentral posted this article. Pricing was not announced.

Apple recalls PowerBook batteries

Apple Computer Inc. issued a recall for PowerBook batteries sold from January 2004 through August 2004 for use with 15-inch PowerBook G4 (Aluminum) notebook computers. The batteries, made by LG Chem, Ltd. of South Korea, could overheat, posing a fire hazard -- Apple said they have received four such reports, although no injuries have been reported.

PocketMac offers RIM Blackberry data sync solution

Information Appliance Associates announced on Thursday the release of PocketMac Blackberry Edition, which enables RIM Blackberry handheld owners to sync personal data with their Macs. The software can sync any Blackberry with Entourage v. X and 2004 contacts and notes, Address Book, Now Up-to-Date Calendar, Contact and Tasks, iCal and Stickies notes. In addition, the application fully integrates with iSync, offers support for serial- and USB-based Blackberry devices and automatic sync on connection with the compute

Jumsoft offers free domain, hosting in Mac-only contest

Jumsoft, a developer best known for its Keynote theme packs and such applications as Process and Money, announced on Thursday a contest aimed only at Mac users. Entrants are asked to craft proposals explaining how they would use the contest's prize -- the domain www.xcodelife.com, Mac OS X v10.3 Server and hosting services consisting of 5GB of drive space, 10GB of bandwidth, 20 e-mail addresses, 10 sub-domains, PHP, WebObjects, CGI and custom-installed software -- in the most creative manner. The company notes that there are no guidelines for entries; ideas mentioned by general manager Saulius Dallide include "a user-friendly Web site for Mac OS X developers, a magazine, a developer mailing list, [or] an open source project." Entries must be received by Sept. 30, however; visit its official Web site for more details.

Griffin intros 10' GarageBand Microphone Cable

Griffin Technology on Friday announced the release of its new 10-foot GarageBand Microphone Cable. It's magnetically shielded, comes with a built-in preamp and features a 3-pin XLR connector on one end, which works with most professional microphones, and a stereo mini jack connector on the other. It also eliminates the need for additional adapters when plugging an XLR-based microphone into the mini-jack preamp in Griffin's iMic and enables the connection of such a microphone to the company's iTalk recording device for iPod

Apple delays G5s with NVidia GeForce 6800 Ultra

Apple has notified some customers that their orders for the Power Mac G5 with NVidia's GeForce 6800 Ultra DDL graphics card has been delayed. The company said it could ship the system a bit sooner if the customer would accept an ATI card and wait for the NVidia card to be sent at a later date.
