MACROMEDIA ADVANCES WEB COMMUNICATIONS WITH BREEZE 5

Groundbreaking release transforms web communications industry with unparalleled features, richness, and ease of use.

Macromedia (Nasdaq: MACR) today announced the immediate availability of a major new release of Macromedia Breeze that delivers high-impact online conferencing and collaborative web communications everyone can access instantly. Breeze 5 harnesses the ubiquity of Macromedia Flash Player with more than 500 million Internet users who can instantly enter an online meeting or access rich, on-demand presentations without the frustrating experiences and painful downloads associated with other web communication systems. To immediately experience a Breeze presentation, please visit www.macromedia.com/go/breezeoverview. For more information on the latest version of Breeze, to view customer testimonials, or to access a free trial, please visit www.macromedia.com/go/breeze.

"With Macromedia Breeze 5, we’re taking off the gloves and showing the industry the way web communications should be done," said Stephen Elop, CEO, Macromedia. "Breeze 5 now has everything organizations need to fully realize the benefits of accelerated and more effective training, marketing, selling, and enterprise conferencing."

Featuring a simple and intuitive user interface, Breeze 5 provides online communications that are easy to access with the ubiquitous Flash Player and rival the effectiveness of in-person meetings. Even first-time users can instantly realize the incredible value of web communications by avoiding the expense of travel and communicating more effectively. Breeze 5 now takes the lead with market-leading features that include Voice over IP, on-demand video, and real-time, multipoint video conferencing.

“The release of Macromedia Breeze 5 moves Macromedia into a horse race with Microsoft, WebEx, and IBM," said Paul Ritter, research director, Wainhouse Research. "In the midst of other major online communication providers, Breeze clearly takes advantage of Macromedia's strong legacy for richness and ease of use. The combination of live web conferencing with seamlessly integrated, on-demand, rich media capabilities provides a comprehensive solution for business users."

Training professionals can deliver richer, more engaging live and self-paced training through a variety of Breeze 5 innovations, including multi-course curriculum management, full-screen video, enhanced tracking and reporting, and expanded question and quiz types. Customers now have the flexibility to launch and track content created with tools such as Macromedia Authorware 7, Macromedia Captivate, Macromedia Flash MX 2004, and Macromedia Dreamweaver MX 2004, as well as AICC-compliant content.

Breeze 5 allows sales and marketing professionals to engage more prospects and qualify more leads while reducing overall acquisition costs. With new event lifecycle management capabilities, companies can deliver and measure successful, lead-generating events and global web seminars with high-impact event creation, registration, and actionable insight through dashboard-style reports. Organizations can also enforce and extend their brand through full customization of the Breeze 5 meeting environment. Customized meeting templates in Breeze 5 permit sales and marketing groups to dramatically reduce preparation time for recurring seminars, team meetings, and sales presentations through persistent meeting rooms already populated with high-impact content.

Unlike other offerings, Breeze 5 enables enterprises to extend and integrate web communications and conferencing, even inside a firewall. IT departments can deploy Breeze 5 enterprise-wide without changing existing client infrastructure because Flash Player is already deployed on multiple platforms, including Windows, Macintosh, and Linux. Breeze now incorporates IT-friendly deployment features such as wizard-based directory service integration, single sign-on support through NTLM or custom-authentication mechanisms, APIs and SDKs for customization and extensibility, and the ability to support large-scale events for up to 2000 participants. Additionally, Breeze 5 is already JITC-certified for government users, and ready to roll into government installations.

With the introduction of a telephone gateway in Breeze 5, organizations can leverage their existing telephony bridges and realize the benefit of choice when considering bridge integration and in-meeting call controls. Macromedia and Premiere Global Services have also partnered (announced today; see separate release) to provide high-quality, integrated telephone audio conferencing in Breeze 5. Users can now access flexible conference calling directly within the Breeze meeting room and individually control the volume of each caller or mute as needed.

AVAILABILITY
The hosted solution of Macromedia Breeze 5 is available today, and the licensed solution will be available on May 31, 2005. Several flexible pricing options, including large-capacity meeting rooms and unlimited use for named users, are available for Breeze 5. To learn more about pricing options, please visit www.macromedia.com/go/breeze.

6th edition of ELEKTRA – Leading-edge audio-visual andtechnological creation

For its 6th edition, Elektra is still set on introducing works
and artists that crossbreed leading electronic music and visual art. Again this year, Elektra
creates links between creative media rooted in audio, video, film, design and interactive
installations, in conjunction with the latest digital technologies. To breathe new life into the term
audio-visual (A/V) – now obsolete in our multimedia era – Elektra selected outstanding works
that demonstrate in many forms the increasingly indissociable relationship between sound and
image. From May 10 to 15, hook up your senses to the digital!

Elektra and Groupe Spectacles Gillett join forces
For this 6th edition, Elektra is proud to collaborate with Groupe Spectacles Gillett in the
presentation of two special events. First, Autechre will kick off Elektra on opening night – May 10
– as part of the famous duo’s North American tour to promote their latest album. They will
showcase their agility in wielding abstract, disjointed and sensuous beats live to the Montreal
audience gathered at Usine C. They will be preceded by sets by snd and Rob Hall. Belgian
group Front 242 will also take part in the event on the occasion of an exclusive performance in
North American at Club Métropolis on May 14, as part of a benefit in aid of Elektra. These
pioneers of EBM (electronic body music) promise to make quite an impact on the Montreal public
with their new performance made of of shattering beats and singular, never-before-seen visuals.
Installations at Elektra.

Over the entire course of the event, a number of audio and interactive installations will be
presented across the city. Usine C will host Cantique no. 3 by Marie Chouinard and Louis
Dufort, an interactive sequel to Cantique no. 2, which was warmly received last year by the
Elektra audience. The Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal will exhibit Frequency and Volume
by artist Rafael Lozano-Hemmer who somewhat transforms the spectator in a radio antenna. At
the Usine C studio, Julie Andreyev and Jordan Benwick will present an experimental DJ/VJ
platform set...in a car. As well, rising collective Les Platinistes numériques in collaboration with
Jason Arsenault and Dominic Gagnon will propose an interactive installation composed of old
TV sets at Pas perdus, the main hall of Place des Arts. Finally, Elektra partners with Chants
Libres and creators Louis Dufort, Alain Pelletier, Alexis Nouss and Pauline Vaillancourt to
present three evenings of l’Archange, an opera that unfolds inside a permanent video installation.

Performances
Many of the works presented during this 6th edition focus on the current place and role of media.
More specifically the RedSniper – S338 project (May 11, Usine C), by the duo made up of visual
artist Kendell Geers and musician Patrick Codenys (Front 242), and the video work of Istvan
Kantor which will be presented at Usine C May 12, during a night dedicated to projects
combining video and music, and including the works of Jean Piché, Khrystell Burlin,
Zack Settel, Delphine Measroch and Nicolas Bernier. Still on the same night, a performance
by Ryoji Ikeda focusing this time on the manner in which computer data construct our perception
of the world will surely not fail to hypnotize the audience.

Another night of performance and videomusic works will take place at Usine C on May 13, with
performances by UVA, to which we owe the visuals of the Massive Attack and U2 shows, d-Fuse
and Scanner, and finally the French duo Servovalve. The presentation of the Plastikman video
trilogy directed by Ali M. Demirel will drive this night which will end festively with the launch of
Epsilonlab’s recent DVD. After fulfilling its audience’s thirst for audio-visual works all week,
Elektra will conclude its series of shows with a multichannel electroacoustic music concert
featuring pieces by composers Nicolas Bernier, Ambrose Field, Ned Bouhalassa,
Louis Dufort and Robert Normandeau.

Elektra and Epoxy present 1024: Design in Motion
In collaboration with Epoxy, Elektra includes a new design tier in its program this year – 1024:
Design in Motion. May 14 at Place des Arts’ 5e salle, internationally recognized artists, among
others special effects experts Richard "Dr." Baily (Solaris, The Cell) and Kevin Tod Haug
(Seven, Panic Room, Fight Club) and design artists UVA (Massive Attack), d-Fuse (Beck),
Étienne Auger (Incandescence) Frédéric Bourque (Ambidextre), Georges Fok (Époxy) and
MK12 will present previously unpublished works further to taking part in a panel. Daniel Fortin,
creative director, and Jean-Christophe Yacono, creative director – new media at Epoxy, are
invited as commissioners for this occasion. www.elektra1024.ca

Audio-visual told
May 12 and 13, Elektra will present to a broad and diversified audience the opportunity to learn
more about and better grasp the concerns of digital artists and workers:
- Free of charge at café de l’Usine C, as of 5pm, the public will be given the chance to meet
Andreas Broeckmann from Transmediale (the most important digital art and creation festival in
Germany), on Thursday, May 12. On May 13, it will be Chris Salter’s turn. He will discuss audiovisual
spaces.

- Elektra will renew its student activity, Alpha_Elektra. Free for secondary school students, this
experience promises to initiate them to the digital arts culturally and technologically. Reputed
Canadian artists, namely Jean Piché, Marie Chouinard, Louis Dufort, Lynn Hugues and
Simon Laroche, will demonstrate various innovative ways of using new technologies at Place
des Arts’ 5e salle.

Elektra in Quebec City
Elektra will host an exclusive evening in Quebec City as part of Manif d’Art, on Saturday, May 21,
at Caserne Dalhousie. On that night, a videomusic for three screens signed Jean Piché will be
presented. Then, Purform (Alain Thibault and Yan Breuleux) will present black_box, a
quadraphonic performance for four screens. The night will end on a festive note with the launch of
Epsilonlab’s DVD, Silence is Presence, with DJ Eloi Brunelle and VJs Les Passagers, among
others.

Elektra thanks all of its partners
Elektra, presented by ACREQ in partnership with Epoxy and Usine C, wishes to acknowledge

Mothers Day: Maxtor as a idea

Maxtor has two great ideas for your Mother’s Day and/or Dads and Grads Shopping Guide.
With digital cameras now penetrating about 50% of today’s U.S households, according to the Photo Marketing Association International, it’s more important today, than ever, to educate consumers about protecting priceless family photos (and other personal documents and business data). Unfortunately, most consumers don’t think about a backup solution until it’s too late. Their computer hard drive comes to a screeching halt, takes its last breath, and poof, all of their data, photos and music are gone. Those little digital treasures were priceless. No more pictures of Johnny’s first steps, Rachel’s home run or Grandma’s last Christmas.

Maxtor has two award-winning solutions to make it simple, even for elementary computer users, to automatically backup their data, or store and share a second copy on a home network.

1) Maxtor OneTouch II external storage and back up solution for PCs and Macs, desktop or laptops
– http://www.maxtor.com/externalstorage

2) Maxtor Shared Storage solution for home networks –
– http://www.maxtor.com/sharedstorage

Maxtor as always offered great products at a amazing prices.
We use them as our main back-up solution here at the Digital Dispatch and we highly recommend them.

Apple Mega Patch Plugs 20 Mac OS X Holes

Apple late Tuesday released an update to fix a whopping 20
security flaws in its flagship Mac OS X and warned that the
most serious bugs could lead to remote code execution
attacks. Should be available like always with software up date.

Apple updates iMac, eMac lines

Apple has updated its iMac and eMac consumer and education-oriented desktops, improving specifications and bundling Mac OS X 10.4 'Tiger' too. The new iMacs bump the desktops' G5-class PowerPC CPUs clock speeds to 2GHz, with an entry-level unit clocked at 1.8GHz. Apple is now building Wi-Fi (aka AirPort Extreme) into the machines, along with Bluetooth 2.0 with Enhanced Data Rate. Gigabit Ethernet is standar. All three standard configurations now ship with 512MB of 400MHz DDR SDRAM, expandable to 2GB.

As before, the two lower-end models are built around 17in LCDs, while the high-end box has a 20in display, with resolutions of 1440 x 900 and 1680 x 1050, respectively. All three machines sport a 128MB, AGP 8x ATI Radeon 9600 graphics sub-systems. Expansion comes courtesy of three USB 2.0 ports and two 400Mbps FireWire connectors. The low-end box contains a 160GB Serial ATA hard drive; the higher-end machines ship with a 250GB Serial ATA unit. All three drives spin at 7200rpm. The top two machines sport 8x DVD+R dual-layer, DVD+RW, DVD-R/RW, CD-RW drives; the 1.8GHz machine offers only DVD-ROM/CD-RW optical storage.

The eMac update sees the two education all-in-ones upgraded from a 1.25GHz G4-class processor to a 1.42GHz version. The top-end model now ships with 512MB of 333MHz DDR rather than 256MB, though both units' hard drives have been upgraded from 40GB and 80GB, respectively to 80GB and 160GB. Apple upgraded the graphics from a Radeon 9200 to a 9600, doubling the video RAM to 64MB while it was at it.

The lower-specced machine retains the old DVD-ROM/CD-RW combo drive, but the top-of-the-range eMac gets the same 8x dual-layer DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-R/RW, CD-RW 'SuperDrive' as the new iMacs.

Tiger Observations Part One: What Out, What's In What You need to Know

The best way to start the month of May is to dig in "Tiger" the new OS from Apple.
Here is the first part of a web log report featuring what you no longer get with OS X
New offering.

What is Out

Internet Explorer
Stuffit Expender

What's In

Dictionary
New set of Sound (Exemple: Crumbling Paper when you empty trash)
Multiple Get Info Windows From the Finder
PList Preference File default to Binary
Option to control Modifier Key
Safari's Address Bar is Now Modifiable
Welcome to MacIntosh Booth sequence alot faster with less information
Brush Metal Windows is on the out: Welcome back to Aqua
Totaly re vamped interface in Mail
iChat now show a new module (based largely on legacy of Zero Conf. Rendez-vous called "Bonjour")
Older Wacom Tablet (USB) are still pretty much supported
New Assistant help you with a few click to port your legacy User Account into your new OS
User that up grade to Tiger have now 3 method of instalation
Built-in Screen Reader by the name of "Voice Over" is now standard

What You Need To Know

Tiger Installation Primer

1) Back Up Your Hard Drive
Make a bootable backup of your current system before you upgrade.

2)Consider Partitioning Your Drive
If your Mac’s hard drive is divided into at least two partitions, you can install Tiger
on one partition while leaving your current Panther system installed on the other.
This gives you the opportunity to test out Tiger before you commit to it.

3)Install Tiger
You’re now ready to start up from the Tiger disc and run the Installer.
If you are upgrading a drive that is currently running Panther, the Installer’s
default selection is Upgrade. This means it modifies or deletes existing Panther files,
as needed, installing the Tiger modifications and files as replacements. However, you have
other choices. If you click the Option button in the Installer’s Select a Destination screen,
you can select to Archive & Install. With this method, the entire Panther software is moved to
a separate folder called Previous Systems; a completely new install of Tiger is put in its place.
We strongly recommend doing an Archive & Install (adding the option to preserve your Home
directory and Network settings) rather than an Upgrade.

4)Give Tiger a Test Run
After starting up with Tiger, check to make sure all the basic features of the OS are working.
In particular, check out whether your Internet connection is active and whether the Finder’s features
are working as expected. If you are having problems that you cannot resolve, check the Web to see if others
have reported the same issue and can provide a solution. If not, try reinstalling Tiger.

5)Give Your Applications a Test Run
Assuming that Tiger passed its initial test, now’s the time to check that all your third-party programs
are working. If the program required a serial number when you first installed it, you may find that you
need to enter it again. In some cases, you may have to completely reinstall a program to get it running again.
Finally, some programs may need to be updated to work with Tiger. If so, the vendor has hopefully either
already released an update or plans to do so soon. To check, go to the vendor’s Web site or to a more general
software update site such as VersionTracker.

6) Enjoy!
