The iPod With Video Saga Part 2

It's been now about 10 days since i've sold my iPod 2rd gen.
I can feel the withdrawell syndrome seting in.
As you recall I am trying to get my hand on a Gen 5 iPod, Yes the one with video and in black of course.

I have roam the city (Montreal) in search of it without much Luck....
The closest I have been to one was when I tried a 60 Gig Model (In White) at a Best Buy store in a South Shore Huge Mall.
The new design and size is impressive. I had the chance to playback some movie trailers (chicken little, King Kong and others)
The quality of the small color screen is to die for. I grant you that without head phones the experience is a few notch below wath I expected mind you, but I can see myself being immerse in a good movie never the less.

I love also the color interface (Not so New but New to me anyway).
I wonder how the battery will do after indulging in a few 2 hours + movies ?
The minute I get my hands on a iPod G5 20 Gigs I will buy it.
Might not be this year; The sales persons at various stores (did more than 5) all tell me that
They might have some, without insisting on a precise date, sometime soon.
In between if I could afford a 60 Gig, no problem then; They all have some in stock now
ready to be adopted! Problem is, most of them are white. Nothing wrong with it just the fact, that I would love to get a black one and a 20 Gig.....

The box is so small now: Make sense nothing comes with it anymore but the regular "cheap" ear buds.
Wait i believe that they give you a USB 2.0 cable.........

That means that I will also have to get my hands on a PCI USB 2.0 Card, that is a pain!
And of course a BTI External iPod Battery. Plus a "rock Solid Case to protect my investment.

This will be a costly proposition.........

Wait a sale person at the second Best Buy store (the one in the Northern end of Montreal, Marche Central) assure me that while they are out of stock on the "Black 30 Gig Model" (I guess i said everywhere else 20 Gig, I stand corrected) they can get one to me in 3 days. Not 3 working days, 3 "any" days. I just need to pay in full now.

That is a strange concept. why don't they just stock up ?
How can they get the iPod in 3 days while Apple cannot ?
I receive as a answer some long and hard "Mumbo Jombo" about the fact that .....Never Mind the story they told me is not worth repeating here.......

At any rate, 10 days later; I Still can't get my New iPod!
Merry christmass from Apple Canada!

The Sony Boycutt Heats up
Ah s***w sony.....(Actual Post from a very Active Forum)

-Having been a loyal sony customer for many years, I own:
a 51 inch widescreen 1080i
a 5.1 home theater system
3 foot tall floor standing speakers
2 DVD players
A sony vaio desktop

This is a new problem that has not been resolved yet so I am still kind of bitter: I have had bad service from sony with the 1080i, which is not something you desire after spending 2g's on a TV.
The tubes went bad(The TV is only 2.5 years old), they did so due to the crappy tubes sony put in the TV. Sony outright lied to customers about the number of TV's effected by this problem (They say 1%, it is closer to 20) and that the problem was "self correcting", sadly it is not.
Long story short:
Sony is going to replace the tubes in my TV free of charge. This is only because I spent 2 weeks on the damn phone with them in a futile attempt to get them to do anything. Finally I called a local service tech and he indicated "Oh the KP51WS? Let me have your serial number, the tubes in most of those models have been recalled and Sony has to replace them if the TV is less than 4 years old". Sure enough, my serial number was in the Database and Next tuesday the tech is comming to fix my TV.
It is just very frustrating to spend roughly 25 hours on the phone with Sony Tech Support and they tell me a tech needs to come out and do an inspection to see if they might fix the problem. Lame.
Not to mention they charge $250 for a damn (Proprietary) power supply for thier Vaio Desktops.
And now they rootkit my windows box for listening to rikki martin, Sony is livin la vida loca!~

It is not known exactly what processors or price points the new models will debut at, but it is thought Apple will expand the iBook line with one additional model and will lower prices—in some cases possibly $200 or more—to entice current Windows users and prove to the market it will be more competitive with the likes of Dell, Gateway, HP and Sony.

Sony'S Official Apology
(November 16, 2005)

-To Our Valued Customers:

You may be aware of the recent attention given to the XCP content protection software included on some SONY BMG CDs (click here for list of titles). This software was provided to us by a third-party vendor, First4Internet. Discussion has centered on security concerns raised about the use of CDs containing this software.

We share the concerns of consumers regarding these discs, and we are instituting a program that will allow consumers to exchange any CD with XCP software for the same CD without copy protection. We also have asked our retail partners to remove all unsold CDs with XCP software from their store shelves and inventory. We will make further details of this program available shortly.

We deeply regret any inconvenience this may cause our customers and we are committed to making this situation right. It is important to note that the issues regarding these discs exist only when they are played on computers, not on conventional, non-computer-based CD and/or DVD players.

Our new initiatives follow the measures we have already taken, including last week’s voluntary suspension of the manufacture of CDs with the XCP software. In addition, to address security concerns, we provided to major software and anti-virus companies a software update, which also may be downloaded at http://cp.sonybmg.com/xcp/english/updates.html. We will shortly provide a simplified and secure procedure to uninstall the XCP software if it resides on your computer.

Ultimately, the experience of consumers is our primary concern, and our goal is to help bring our artists’ music to as broad an audience as possible. Going forward, we will continue to identify new ways to meet demands for flexibility in how you and other consumers listen to music.
